intervening
To be present where it matters, when it matters.
The Refuge offers a variety of services to address the needs of young people and improve their health and living conditions. In the short term, we provide emergency shelter to give them a place to stay, food, and an evaluation of their situation to address their basic needs. Once the emergency has been stabilized, day center team supports them in improving their health (physical, mental, and addiction-related), finding housing, and, for some, navigating the legal immigration process. The Refuge's intervention approach is further supported by social housing and community support. Twenty-three subsidized apartments and a dedicated team guide residents toward residential stability, greater autonomy, and employability, ultimately aiming toward social reintegration.

In an effort to break the cycle of homelessness and increase residential stability for young people aged 18 to 30 facing persistent and recurring homelessness, the Refuge is deploying a complementary intervention initiative. It has set up a 23-unit site with community assistance, with rent subsidized in part by the Refuge des jeunes. A dedicated team helps the young tenants reintegrate into society. The team provides one-on-one support, assists tenants with the steps they need to take, and organizes community and social activities.
Thanks to this program, these young people become tenants and are no longer homeless.
